The Embera and Wounaan Indians from the
rain forest in the Darien Province of Panama are master artisans, known for their fine baskets. They are hand woven using natural fibers found in the forest and a
variety of extracts of plants and earth, using traditional methods for dying the basket fibers. Seldom, if ever, are any two baskets alike. The original designs
usually portray life in the village, local animals and insects or plant life. The income earned from the sale of these wonderful baskets reduces the need to destroy the rain forest for agricultural purposes.
